"Great Green Ghost will take you from a transitional scene in an indie-film to your neighbor’s funeral."

- Mimi Strauss - No More Division

Great Green Ghost is a four-piece rock band from Norfolk, VA. Their sound ranges from bright, upbeat jaunts to dark dirges soaked in reverb and regret. Instead of the standard introspective lyrics of modern rock music, Great Green Ghost embraces the story-telling approach when it comes to writing songs.

Influenced by the post-punk and lo-fi bands of the ‘80s and ‘90s, Great Green Ghost channels the dark rock vibes of artists like Echo & the Bunnymen and the Pixies. The surf punk of recent acts like Wavves and Surfer Blood inspires catchy choruses and jangly melodies which are tempered with rhythms similar to the Decemberists and a gloomy Americana flair. The result is a haunted soundscape with guitars that bristle against the wind and shine like exposed pyrite in the midday sun.

The name Great Green Ghost evokes the themes of life and death, madness and the macabre in the way H.P. Lovecraft addressed these themes in plain English nearly a hundred years ago. Through dusty riffs and dark lyrics, they evoke a cadaverous and sun-scorched earth. A place where you might discover a coiled rattlesnake just as easily as a desert flower in bloom, depending upon which rock you turn over.
